Quick Update - Voting Bug Fixed

The plugin we are using for the voting system had a bug in the IP logging code that thought everyone who was visiting the website to vote had already voted - thus allowing them to just see the results. Obviously this was not planned and was hard for us to test :-). It seems to be rolling fine now so feel free to go vote!

We’ve just dropped all the polls for the 2008 Iowa Web Awards. Voting will be open for one week, closing Monday, October 6 (unless you want it to go longer - leave a comment here if you do).

Sorry to get this update out late, but we postponed the schedule backed by popular demand. Most people thought we were doing everything too quickly so we’re giving you more time.
We will stop taking nominations on Tuesday, September 23rd.
Voting will begin Wednesday, September 24th.

2008 Iowa Web Awards Schedule

Here is the schedule for the 2008 Iowa Web Awards…
We are currently taking ideas and suggestions for the categories that will be voted on here.
August 27th: Official Categories will be announced
August 27th: Begin taking nominations for each category
September 2: Nominees will be announced and voting begins
September 9: Winners Announced
We are working on some sort of awards ceremony right now - if this pans out we will announce next week.
Iowa Web Awards Logo Contest

As I mentioned here, we are holding a contest to come up with the Iowa Web Awards new logo. The only requirement is that it looks good on this website’s theme (ie color, type, etc). The entries are due by 12:00 (noon) on Monday, August 25th. Please email your entry to andy[at]48webconsulting.com.
I will post the entries on this blog to be voted on by the community. The winner will get links to their portfolio or website. The logo will be used on nominee widgets/banners as well as the awards.
Contribute to Iowa Web Awards

As we have found out the best way to build a website is to let the community help out. Here’s what we need from you.
1. Logo submissions - We need a snazzy logo to go with our shiny new website. If you are a designer and want to submit something for us to look at please email andy[at]48WebConsulting.com. Once we get a few submissions, we’ll let the community vote on them. The lucky winner will get credit in the footer and their very own blog post with super linkage to their website/portfolio.
2. Let us know what categories you want to see voted on here. Once we have a solid list of categories, we’ll open up the nominations.
3. As I mentioned in #2, the community will nominate all the websites/companies/etc for each category.
4. Once all the above nominees have been submitted and decided upon, you will vote on who wins in each category. Simple, right?
5. Discuss on Twitter using the #IowaWebAwards hashtag
6. Tell all your friends!
We hope to start voting for the 2008 Iowa Web Awards in early September, but we need YOU to help out! We hope you enjoy this project!

If you don’t like one, let us know. If you think a new one should be added, let us know. Leave your ideas in the comments on this post so we can easily keep track of the thread.
We don’t want to dictate what is voted on - we want the community to decide. The list above is completely arbitrary and is just a starting point for brainstorming. Once we have gotten a good list of categories going we will close the comments here and proceed with taking nominations for each category.
The 2008 Iowa Web Awards Categories will be finalized on Wednesday, August 27th 2008.
